Some interesting dynamics have evolved from Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential candidate. Plenty of them have to do with Gov. Palin's knowledge and positions about issues; some have to do with her gender. But Gov. Palin has a rural background, she's from a rural state and, previous to being elected Alaska's governor, she was mayor of what urbanites call a "small town." That shouldn't be considered a detriment.
